During my recent trip to Osaka, I was fortunate to spend time with Genta and Ikushi from Truck Furniture. Our first stop was Nara Park (奈良公園, Nara Kōen), which is a public park located in the city of Nara, Japan. They told me it was a deer park and they weren’t joking – there are over 1,200 wild sika deer freely roaming around in the park.
In the afternoon, we made our way back to Truck Furniture. I haven’t been back here since my first visit in 2013 to photograph Tokuhiko Kise for my first book of Faculty Department. This place that Tok has built has continued to have a lasting impact on me; from the aesthetic and design of the furniture to the overall lifestyle and experience you get while being there (the showroom, furniture studios, and Tok’s home are all on the same block). I had a great time catching up with the Truck Furniture staff and I can’t wait to soon have some of their pieces in my home. ■
